Designed for impact and wear resistance, with proprietary steel chemistry and maximum wall thickness on the extrados of the pipe, the XLE elbow puts you in control of your pipeline. XLE offers better performance and improved durability, resulting in fewer change outs and reduced exposure hours.

PROPRIETARY TECHNOLOGY
Through metallurgical research and internal testing, Ultra Tech identified a steel chemistry with high manganese content as the ideal material to create its extended life elbow. This steel chemistry actually hardens over time as it absorbs impact, making it ideal for pneumatic applications!

ABRASIVE TRANSPORT
Extremely abrasive molding sands and fine dust are transported through long sand reclamation pipelines. Directional changes like 90° bends wear quickly during abrasive pneumatic transport, resulting in high risk of potential failure.
Valmet’s casting foundry pneumatically transported over 4 million pounds of sand using the Ultra Tech XLE. Find out how the XLE maintained over half its wall thickness throughout this difficult application.
problem
Ultra Tech successfully converted numerous sections of Valmet’s foundry sand pipelines to UT 600 abrasion-resistant steel pipes, resulting in significantly improved durability and cost savings. Despite the overall successful pipe conversions, there remained a few short, 90° elbows where our UT 600 could not be installed because it is not possible to form an induction-hardened pipe into a short, 90° bend.
solution
Impact issues solved! The Ultra Tech R&D team decided to tackle the problem with a new solution: the XLE 90° elbow. This bend is cast with a new wear-resistant steel chemistry that extends the life of the elbow by hardening over time as it absorbs impact. The Ultra Tech 4" XLE was installed at the top of Valmet’s silo pipeline where sand deliveries are received.
solution
The 4″ XLE was in place for a full year and transported over 4 million pounds of sand! When inspected at the one-year mark, it still had over half of its wall thickness intact. Now, Valmet’s foundry operations can run longer with less downtime, saving the company time and money.
