WEAR IS INEVITABLE.
FAILURE ISN’T.

Abrasive materials in pipelines are destructive by nature. Extending service life starts with using the right materials. Ultra Tech pipeline solutions deliver improved reliability, safety and profitability.

Problem Area. Proven Fix.

Replace short‑life 90° bends with the XLE™ Extended Life Elbow to control wear, reduce changeouts, and improve system reliability.

RECLAIM CONTROL

Designed for impact and wear resistance, with proprietary steel chemistry and maximum wall thickness on the extrados of the pipe, the XLE elbow puts you in control of your pipeline. XLE offers better performance and improved durability, resulting in fewer change outs and reduced exposure hours.

PROPRIETARY TECHNOLOGY

Based on metallurgical research and internal testing, Ultra Tech developed a high‑manganese steel engineered for extended wear life. The material work‑hardens under impact—making it ideal for high‑abrasion pneumatic conveying applications.

ABRASIVE TRANSPORT

Extremely abrasive molding sands and fine dust are transported through long sand reclamation pipelines. Directional changes like 90° bends wear quickly during abrasive pneumatic transport, resulting in high risk of potential failure.

4 Million Pounds of Sand, No Problem!

"SAND IS OBVIOUSLY VERY ABRASIVE AND BASICALLY THE MACHINES TRY TO EAT THEMSELVES ALIVE AS WE MOVE SAND AROUND THE BUILDING ALL DAY."

ULTRA TECH EXTENDED LIFE ELBOW (XLE)

Pneumatic pipeline systems present some very specific challenges. Often, they are suspended over equipment or even pass between buildings. While the material being moved may appear lightweight, the volume and velocity result in significant wear to mild steel piping systems, particularly at areas where there is a change in direction. Accessing these systems for maintenance and repair usually requires system shutdown and may expose workers to hazardous conditions. Even one unreliable component in a pneumatic system can create headaches and expensive downtime.

One solution is to increase the radius of the bend in order to make the transition smoother, but that may require new mounting hardware or be impractical based on the location of other equipment. Our team encountered this complicated scenario with several customers, so we set our engineers on solving this problem.

Their knowledge and experience resulted in the ULTRA TECH EXTENDED LIFE ELBOW (XLE).

The XLE Line of elbows are heavy walled and cast from steel with high manganese content. They excel in pneumatic applications. The impact from pneumatic applications actually hardens the inner wall of the elbow over time!

XLE DELIVERS RESULTS

One customer tried several options for a trouble spot in their foundry sand transport system. Our engineers tackled the problem and developed the XLE Extended Life Elbow.

In this real-world application, the 4″ XLE transported over 4 million pounds of sand and lasted for a full year. When inspected, that elbow still had half of its wall thickness intact.
