FREEPORT MCMORAN TRUSTS IN TRICON WEAR SOLUTIONS

CHALLENGE

Mr. Jackson discussed the problem with Tricon’s Shon Marshall and Marcus Gaethje. They felt 1″ Super-C® liner with countersunk 82° bolts would be the best option. The need was urgent, so the Tricon engineering and fabrication teams got to work. They delivered 210 liners within three weeks and they “fit like a glove”. The facility operators were so pleased with the speed and effectiveness of the Tricon solution that they quickly moved forward on a second chute that was in need of repair.

SOLUTION

The image shown is of a feeder at a Freeport McMoRan mine in Arizona. This feeder handles 9″ minus crushed rock and is exposed to an enormous amount of abrasive and impact wear. The feeder walls were originally covered with studded steel liners. These studs would break off which resulted in shutting down, spiling off the feeder, and replacing the damaged liner section. This process would have the feeder down for 10-12 hours for repair. Tim Jackson, Crush and Convey Supervisor, was eager to find a better solution.
